A big, wonderfully balanced wine that I would definitely buy again. Notes of blackberries, cherries, and dried figs with the oak present but not overwhelming. Kind of wish I had decanted this but it was fun watching it evolve in the glass. Could have cellared for a decade but I have no regrets about opening it when I did - super enjoyable, concentrated, and complex.

The bottle had a great fill level and the cork was perfectly intact. Still fairly light in color with minimal bricking given the age. This had an amazing nose of old books with fruit still present - I could have sat there smelling it all night. Unfortunately the taste had a strong acidity that felt on the verge of vinegar and all tannins were completely gone. Not ruined, and definitely improved once it had a chance to open, but almost certainly past its prime. Astonishingly, there was absolutely zero sediment in the bottle! Drink if you have it, it's still an experience.

As delicious with food as it was on its own, this wine had matured beautifully over the nearly 40 years since it was bottled. Perfectly balanced fruit, acid, and tannins - this wine brought big flavors of beef, leather, and black fruit without any one being overpowering. Truly magnificent, and a welcome surprise given that it's a really affordable wine but drinks way above its price point. I will definitely be buying more to enjoy now and to set aside for when my hair is grayer.
