I liked this wine straight from the get-go-the nose was evocative of a light floral perfume, but not in a cloying or overbearing way. It's a great wine for a summer meal al fresco (which is how we drank it)with meat as the main course since it's not too heavy but can stand up to a steak. It's also the perfect wine to drink while playing Scrabble, which we also did and while it didn't improve my score, it made for a more enjoyable competition! If you like strawberries and a hint of herbal notes, you will like this wine.

2017 Kistler Chardonnay Hyde Vineyard

This is like the Goldilocks of the most recent Kistler Chardonnays I've been drinking; just right. Light in color, beautiful nose that prompted me to inhale before every sip, just that nice. Tropical, as in pineapple, melon, lemon. Touches of vanilla, butterscotch, but not overwhelmingly so. Perfect finish, that lingers just long enough and has a crisp finale. Loved all the classic features of an excellent Russian River Valley Chardonnay-rich, full, luxurious, complex and without the petrol that some others have and I do not like. Paired with a dinner my daughters made of grilled scallops, pureed carrots with cumin, and a roasted eggplant/red onion/avocado salad. Perfection.

2017 Kistler Chardonnay Hudson Vineyard

Light, clear lemony color. First tastes evoke the tropics-pineapple and honeydew. Subtle smokey notes, less so than other Kistlers I've drunk and I find this makes it more appealing. It mellows with time and when the vanilla reveals itself, it becomes something I want to bottle and wear as a perfume. Eau (oh!)de Kistler.
