  • 1990 Pertimali (Livio Sassetti) Brunello di Montalcino Riserva

Beautiful and deep burgundy in colour with the expected clay edges. As the evening wore on the wine opened up beautifully. For those of you that have posted negative reviews, you either don’t understand what a 30+ year old Brunello Reserva should taste like or you don’t have a properly operating cellar. The wine was perfect for its age. Still good fruit with tons of structure. Beautiful wooden and cigar tobacco notes. Dark 90% choc with a bit of fruit cake. This is all on the nose. In the mouth, the mouthfeel is excellent for its age with still a silky and smooth texture. Feels like 2% milk. The palate shows stewed red berries with lots of old world flavours. The wine actually got better after an hour of oxygen. Livio at 97 knows how to make wine! This bottle was purchased ex cellar. Bravo!

  • 2010 Isole e Olena Chianti Classico

Clay rim with a burgundy colour. After a little time notes come out in the nose. Beautiful rose petal and perfume. A flower bouquet very sophisticated finished with a cherry compote. Old world flavours on this 13 year old Isole and it is at its peak, so if you are like me and have a few bottles drink right now. Room is tea leaves and cedar that’s been sitting in a cigar humidor. I mean it…go and get them now!

  • 2007 Vitanza Brunello di Montalcino Tradizione

Still quite youthful in colour after 16 years. Vibrant red all the way to the rim and corners. Lots of bright red berry fruit on the nose. Honey cake and a light cinamon spice as well. Wonderful mouthfeel with a initial baked red berry compote. A nice long finish lasting minutes. Beautiful balance and with a little air from decanting you realize quickly that this wine is at its best. It might even be better than the reservo of the same year. Drink NOW!
