  • 2017 Château Haut-Vigneau

Enjoyed with some antipasto fire pit side. Even though the alcohol is low at 13% and the age so far, I find it hard to believe a well kept bottle is in the downside of the drinking window here. Very young and bright, bright fruits- tart cherries, pomegranate, raspberry. Smooth transition to a 20ish second finish in the mouth where the oak starts to peak through with some currants. Acid level is slightly more that I would hope for, and the blend might have been helped by slightly more merlot, but that is nit picking.
Not a real long life ahead but easily 5 more years if it lasts. The price point in mid $20s is very accommodating.

  • 2019 Cayuse God Only Knows

Happy Easter!! Combined this with 2014 Paul Lato “Le Souvenir” for an old white young red pairing. Served with smoked ham and sausage, side of scalloped potatoes, asparagus, yams, and green bean casserole.

This wine was picked not only for the name but to play well with the meats. That it did. Medium body light ruby color. Soft herbal nose red red forward fruit. Not my favorite style of wine or grape for my taste buds. God only knows is cherries, strawberries, and currants. Tannins we’re balanced and light, finish rather quick, compared to the other wine.

Drinking well now, popped decanted 1 hour drank over 2 hours. Definitely young needs time.

  • 2014 Paul Lato Chardonnay le Souvenir Sierra Madre Vineyard

Happy Easter!! Combined this with 2019 Cayuse “God Only Knows” Grenache for an old white young red pairing. Served with smoked ham and sausage, side of scalloped potatoes, asparagus, yams, and green bean casserole.

To describe this wine in two words I say “tropical butter”. Light bright floral nose, ever so slight mineral notes flow to the mouth on first taste of juicy stone fruits and long lemony butter finish. Good body and good acidity. The best part of dinner was a sip of this after scalloped potatoes in heavy cream sauce.

Drinking very well now, popped put on ice and drank over 2 hours. Definitely life left to go buy some more.
