  • NV Shooting Star (Jed Steele) Shiraz Black Bubbles

Last two bottles of a case purchase from 2007. The bright floral-champagne type essence was no longer present in this fun wine, but it did present itself more like a sparkling Shiraz. I would not recommend decanting this wine. Drink cool/chilled and let it breathe a "little". The Shiraz comes out and the dichotomy of texcture versus taste let's you have some fun. As a red wine fan, and not all that fond of the taste champagne (I like the texture), this was perfect for Christmas dinner.

  • 2006 Bradford Mountain Zinfandel Grist Vineyard

Tight even after running through and aerator and decanting for 20+ minutes. Nose was concentrated plum, blueberry, and currant mixed with cassis. Some mild aromas of forest floor and peat. Initial taste was just narrow, tight and short. Nice velvety texture, but the complexity was struggling to get out. Decided to let this sit for an hour. Re-approaching this an hour later made me think that this was a completely different wine. The overly fruity nature subsided, great notes of leather, tar, cocoa, and notes of dark berry. Smooth finish and was decently balanced, but needs more time in the cellar. I can only see this getting better with additional cellaring.

  • 2008 Wine Guerrilla Zinfandel

Soft, but full nose. Deep currant and cola notes on first smell. Ran through the venturi. Soft texture, thinner than expected with such a dark, garent-inky color. Uninteresting at first and tasted like a typical young zinfandel meritage. Over the next 30-45 minutes, this wine came to life. The plushness I was looking for came through, deeper notes of cola, cherry, chocolate and boysenberry. It had a hint of juniper through the middle and had a nice finish. This was a great QPR and would be a good everyday wine, with or without food pairing.
