Of all the 16' Ponsot Red's on this day this was looking the most surly and shut down. More potential in time than the village MSD Grives but far less pleasure at this early stage for sure. I like the blend of red & dark fruits here and the very fine tannin, it is very compressed but you can see the potential.

Ponsot Tasting with Alexandre Abel (Chicago, IL): It's very interesting to compare this next to both the 2005 and the 2016 Grives. With the Grives, it's so clear that this is the denser and more brooding wine of the pair. Whereas the Grives shows exuberant strawberry juice tones, this is far more subdued. Yes, there are youthful sweet fruit notes here, but you need to look for them under the black fruit. Much more tannic and coiled than the Grives. It was much more difficult to make a comparison with the relatively open 2005. This was just packed too tightly right now.

Rich red dark blue concentrated oxidative, late picked, pepper, Rhone like, alcoholic acidic finish. Definitely not my style.

Degustation Burgund 2016, Martel (Martel am Bellevue): Weniger dicht als Bussiere von Roumier, eher rote Beeren. Aber schon mit schöner komplexität und zugänglicher.
