At Le Manoir. Chosen as aperitif and to go through the first three courses. Great freshness and lift on its own and with almonds and olives, thereafter it struggled. Too light and somewhat hollow and short to compete with even the canapés, let alone the prawn and salmon courses. My fault, and fine as an opener/sharpener.

(NV Pol Roger Brut) Reminded me of Chablis with bubbles. There was a nice green apple skin quality and pretty dense bubbles and might have lacked a touch of refinement. I have found that to be a problem in 98's - - - lack of refinement.

[Restaurant purchase] At On Cru, Rotterdam. Brioche, dough, lemon, wet rock. Seems to have slightly more dosage than I prefer

Probably the best champagne I’ve ever had; not acidic, can taste the chard, custard… really nice
