This was opened only an hour before initial sips. Obviously very tight, but opened nicely with time before dinner. Dark fruits with a few red notes, spice and leather as well. Drinking nicely now, but should be sublime in another five years or so.
A bunch of mostly Cal Cabs (MOCA (Cleveland)): This is excellent. I am a bit surprised as to how well it is drinking, but then I remember that 09 is now 7 years from vintage. The nose is nice with cassis, plums, cherries and some herbal strings. On the palate, lovely texture. Not as big as some vintages. Lots of fruit, already making the move to tertiary complexity. Still plenty of fruit left. Some tannins. Long finish.
80% of a previously CV'd bottle opened but not decanted ~ 4 hours prior to following over 90 mins. Rich and lush dark fruit, dominate, with lavender, fine tannins facilitating a 30+ second finish over a satin-coated palate. Wish I wasn't writing this after-the-fact, as this was an impressive wine that's worthy of more than I'm writing. With adequate air this is enjoyable today, but this will undoubtedly have a long and enjoyable future.
