  • My oldest Acacia and PN. 14.4%. On initial opening, dark in color, starting off with smoky cherry, herb and black plummy aromas. My initial reaction was Cal-styled PN, as the weight and size surprised me. As wine breathed (well, warmed up, as I took it to the restaurant in my bag right from the cellar), it started to lose some of the weight, developing more minerality and raspberry. The herb and plum nose remained but I wonder now about some of the recent talk on the BB about serving temp for PN. Wonder if the wine's weight would have remained if I kept it a bit cooler? Final note.....maybe a bit of VA on the nose but not obtrusive. Not a bad wine, overall, for 7 years old.

  • Consumed at dinner with the Alessios, with the bottle being ordered from the La Jolla Country Club wine list. Bright disc. Medium ruby robe with red rim. Clean nose, showing intense black cherry, plum, cocoa and smoke. Medium-bodied on the palate, with moderate oak, medium supple tannins and flavors of chocolate and black fruit. Long, smooth finish. This is an outstanding effort from Acacia which should drink well for the next several years.
