Community Tasting Notes (10) Avg Score: 88.1 points

  • Deep ruby with high optical density. Medium intensity nose, with bramble, red berries (strawberry, raspberry) leather, green pepper, and some aromatic tarry floral notes (picked up a bit like band aid). Quite light on the palate, with medium acidity, firm tannins, and significant alcohol. Flavour profile shows bramble and red berries on the attack, which gives way to green pepper and worn leather at midpalate, which is a touch hollow, but not excessively so. The finish shows heat and lingering leathery tobacco. A nice wine, very much typical of Southern Rhone, for which this provides a great introduction at a good price. Drinking nice now. A bit unbalanced with ethanol, which seems typical for Southern Rhone in any case, but good balance otherwise.

  • Developed red color, some sediment. Nose of ground pepper, leather and bell pepper. Pencil tip. The palate has some unbalanced alcohol, and at 14,5% that is no wonder. Powerful and spicy. Very good wine.

  • Another impressive Rasteau from MC. Young, primary, classic Southern Rhone structure of tar and gravel, tight tannin. Not a bad mini-me of the Tardieu Laurent CDPs 4 - 5 times the price. Needs at least another 2 years.

  • Rather closed bouqet, some blueberrie jam, and oak. Full bodied, easy drinking wine. Low tannins, but does have some acidity. Sweet dark berries hint of chocolate and spices. Alcohol is present a bit too much. Maybe a bit generic, and uninspiring, but for the price this delivers.

  • Deep red/purple colour. Flowers on the nose - rose and violets. Red fruits too. Candied flowers in the mouth, with red and dark cherry, raspberry and a nice minerality. Good drive and reasonable length. Noticeable but not overwhelming tannins. I reckon it's a delicious quaffer and probably even a bit better than that.
