This has sweet & sour red and black fruit on the palate, with good acidity and persistence. The nose is vaguely pleasant but otherwise not noteworthy at this point. This was the 2nd wine we poured in a flight of three 2011 contradas from this winemaker.

Rubin red in the baloon at first, then showing some orange reflections. At the nose, plenty of ripe red fruit with some marasca hints; the palate is consistent with plenty of fruit and still limited tertiary notes so far, with tannins still there. Not sure this Nerello Mascalese has reached its best, althought it is believed to be at the end of its drinking window : still somehow rustic and not perfectly integrated. In a cold evening in red-zone losing memories of these LTM

P1: Varm, rundare ton, blåröd frukt, viol, vass och greppigt slut, syran lite mindre påtaglig men ändå hög, blåare frukt än 2:an (92).

quite different from the "base" Passopisciaro, this Cru Porcaria seems still quite youthfully astringent and maybe not so well integrated notes of ripe fruit and underbrush. Still a little bit rustic somehow and sharp. Will hopefully further evolve with ageing. Long life ahead, will open my other bottle in 2021-2022 to see how it has evolved. 89+

Taken to Cotogna SF, this was in a good spot, less tannic, slightly richer and more open than other Nerello M. wines I've had, with plenty of energy in a light to medium frame. The aromatics weren't beguiling or popping but nonetheless expressive, inviting you with a touch of earthy sweetness, whereas the palate concludes with pomegranate tang. Overall this has moved from crunchy Gamay territory more towards a volcanic and herbal twist on Pinot Noir. This is the most aged Nerello I've had and also the best. 93-94.
