Drunk at McKays Steakhouse at The American Club Hong Kong - Sweet marzipan greets you on the nose that slowly evolves into liquor chocolates. Phenomenal balance between the fruit and alcohol both of which deliver the power that you'd expect of a wine at least 50 or 60 years its junior. I was expecting the usual 50+ year old mellow vintage port experience something akin to an afternoon in a leather armchair at a St James's gentlemen's club but instead this was like a lap of the Nurburgring in a Bugatti such is the potency of this wine.

A Weekend in Excess; 1/20/2012-1/21/2012 (Trondheim, Norway): (Believed to be Cockburn 1927; the label had fallen off when in the current owner's possession, no info on seal or cork) (Blind) This was the last one of 40+ wines this evening, and probably did not get the attention it deserved at 4 AM. Very raisiny on smell; wonderful length, surprisingly it still has some berry fruit – but it is residing, making way to the alcohol. However, still elegant and complex.

New Years Eve in Big Bear. THIS was an experience. Greatest port I've ever had, and that includes some of the best vintages from Taylor, Fonseca, and Graham's. I was poured a very healthy glass that took forever for me to finish, mainly because the pleasure of drinking this magnificent port, bottled before the Great Depression and during a time when Babe Ruth was King of the sports world, was so enjoyable that I refused to finish the glass, even though my wife and friends kidded me about it. I was adamant that my moment with this historic nectar was to be extended for as long as possible. When I did finally finish the last of it, a melancholy moment followed, and helped put into perspective what had just been shared by Dave, Jen, my wife, and myself - a bit of history that teetered on the brink of perfection.

Lovely!, still alive and kickin'. A bit alcoholic nose at first, then as the hours pass by, the bouquet opens up, lovely coffee nose. Uncomparably smooth on palate. Endless finish. Wonderful bouquet from the nearly empty decanter days after.
