It was intense and expressive from the get go, with a nose of smoky mineral, fennel tops preserved lemon and peach. The palate was direct and intense, with a lactic quality through the mid. It had great presence and drive and length was phenomenal.

2014 Raveneau have felt so closed up for awhile now, you get the genius behind the wine as it fills like the belt buckle is about to blow wide off that fat pant waist, but it's not quite there. The Valmur has this bristling density wrapped into the classic waxy Raveneau texture but it feels like it's two notches away from a belly burst and even with 3 hours of stuffing, it didn't get it too much closer. Maybe I would have felt differently and thought the wine was more ready to go than it was if the other two wines next to it weren't so electric.

Finally moving to CT. Popped at Maison Pic in Valence. Pale lemon green. This was initially reductive but blew off to reveal classic notes of flint, lemon oil, flowers and the faintest touch of oak. Isn’t as broad shouldered as some others chez Raveneau I’ve tasted but definitely feeling the quality and intensity on this. Long saline finish.

What a brilliant wine, very lucky to be able to taste next to the Vincent Dauvissat Grand Cru 2019. In the beginning it didn't give much, but as time went on it opened more and more after 1.5 hours and things really got started. Minerality, citrus, honey, apple, stone fruit, you can better describe which flavours you did not taste. All flavours were so clear and pure, yet delicate and balanced. And an eternal aftertaste. A bizarrely good wine, the best I have had the pleasure tot taste so far hence the high score. Was able to drink it for its release price, so insane price quality as well.
