Very fun wine. Black more than red fruit. High tannins with a grittiness, chewiness that remind me of some Barolos and Douro reds, but the acidity is not that high as those, thankfully. Medium acid. The tannins do integrate and the fruit can stand up to it. A very "masculine" wine. Probably will be better integrated in another 5+ years, if the fruit holds. My second favorite red of the night in a mix of L'Aventure, Clos Solène and Benom wines.

Inky in the glass. Dusty jam and leather on the nose - like a really big red wine. Dark berry jam of ripe fruit, rich and sweet (in a good way). Cedar, mint and tarragon notes on the finish.

A bit disjointed mid pallet thru the finish so I would drink my older and younger Optimus for another year until this enters another phase. But certainly has the typical fruit and intensity.

Went to L'Aventure this past weekend (June 18th) and the Tasting Room recommended to begin drinking the '16 Optimus. This has mellowed out nicely into a full bodied, smooth textured red. I'm sure it can last longer in the bottle, but it's very nice now as well.

I liked it but don't see the high rating others have given.
