Distressingly brown upon the first pour but there’s still a luminous core the color of a saignee rose surrounded by substantial bricking. This bottle is quite mature and on the downward slope with heaps of VA, slightly maderized fruit, and a palate dominated by tertiary and autumnal flavors. It’s good, and probably worth the price I paid for it back in what now seem to be the good old days of baroli pricing, but at the current prices I’d think twice before rolling the dice here as this bottle was not an excellent or transcendent nebbiolo.

This bottle of Giacosa's 1985 1985 Barolo Villero di Castiglione Falletto was fully mature, unfurling in the decanter and glass to deliver an expressive nose of fennel seed, dried cherries, strawberries, pipe tobacco and licorice. Medium to full-bodied, melting and enveloping, with tangy acids and an ample core of sweet fruit, it's sunny and generous in personality.

Sommelier Appreciation Dinner 2020 (The Brown Residence): Warm, round and soft red cherry fruit, a hint of cedar, still a hint of tannins at the end. A classic Giacosa. The warmth and red fruit remind me the 85 Burgundy a bit. A classic Giacosa style and clearly expression the warm vintage.

Returned to this 10 years after last trying a bottle - not a good example, showed turbitybdespitw not having moved for years. Odd
