Chocolate, coffee, walnut, sweet maraschino cherries on the nose. More walnut on the palate, kirsch, mulling spices, dates and still a little red fruit - rich and delicious but still with some fruity freshness

Bottled in 2020. Medium garnet colour. Cherry, blueberry, plum, coffee, toffee, caramel, nuts, walnut, mushroom and spices, with medium sweetness, balancing acidity, lightly warming alcohol, and very good length. The tannin was a little coarse and chewy on day one, but the wine became smoothly textured and well-balanced and drank very well from day two.

Poured into a decanter and drank over the course 2-3 hours after dinner, enjoying along with a CAO Gold Churchill (which in hindsight I should have paired with a much more fuller and darker wrapper). At first this was pure raisin syrup and barrel stave but ultimately developed more grape and plum fruit notes with hints of toffee, creme brulee, caramel and only traces of that barrel stave on the finish. Structure is mostly alcohol (20% abv) with help from the tannin to produce a fuller mouthfeel, smoother upfront but finishing with a tannic-woodsy bite. Much fruitier and less "tawny" than I was expecting but seems to jive with the 2004 vintage report for the Douro. Didn't see many other producers declaring in 2004 though. Neutral on this one and torn on getting more. $26 (Westgate Wine Raleigh) was a sale price and maybe if it I saw it there or lower again I would pick up some to have with a pipe or a fuller bodied cigar. B+ (89) eval for me.

Medium (+) tawny colour. Pronounced nose with caramel, cinnamon, honey and hazelnut. Pronounced taste of eucalyptus, cinnamon, honey, hazelnut and caramel. Long and sweet finish. Medium acidity. Full body. A very good Colheita. Goes well with caramel or fruit based desserts.

Overraskende rød og parfymert lukt, med mandel og litt alkohol. Etter noen dager i flaske: Fin rød rognebær-tråd, søt, balanseres med god syre
