  • cinco hace sixto (rodriguez): 7.5% abv. AP 30. NOSE: utmost restraint in the expression of flamboyantly mature Riesling berries. There's a rakish pulse of ruptured blueberry in its core. It's a transparent matrix, surrounded with salt-marsh mead, stiff flowers, strawberry, milled seashell, and MOUTH: classical, with a lunge in the direction of mouthwatering salt and solar acidity. A roughly hewn front of primordial rock advances over earnest piles of diverse, ripe fruit—nothing dominates; not pineapple, not apple, not citrus, not apricot. Acidity here is determined to press the action forward. Sugar rises to the occasion, directing traffic, while preserving an articulated drinking experience. I want to sit with it for a day or two. For now: 92-93.

24 hours later, it's still good, but like most MFR wines I drink these days, it's best on day 1. No collapse; just, it's ready to go when it's open. It's already warmed up and ready to pitch.

  • Day 1 was all soft residual sugar on the finish. Day 2 was similar. It wasn’t until Day 3 when things got interesting. The acidity began to assert itself on the midpalate and finish, and the pleasant tartness balanced the sweet. Drink now if you like softer, sweeter wines. Otherwise, hold for at least another couple of years.

  • Showing more depth, longer finish, perking up and very tasty.

  • Consumed over two days and was more vibrant on the second than the first. Medium body, pronounced sweetness but not overpowering. Good refreshing acidity and some petrol + petrichor elements. Will revisit and a nice value at the $23 paid.

  • Classic slatey petrol green apple and spice; lovely on the palate, wound up early but still drinking well a week later in the fridge, some sesame seed, clove, lime zest, good driving acids and sweetness very in check; very solid.
