Madeira Pilgrimage; 2/1/2016-2/4/2016 (Madeira): Smells dry and highly oxidized, lots of salted nuts. So tart on the palate with bright lemon, salted lime and some white peach, along with salted nuts. Not very complicated, but fun, innovative stuff.

Pale golden color. The bouquet is not extremely expressive, but there are orange, honey, nuts, raisins and some grasses. On the palate nicely dry with caramel and nuts, iodine, fresh acidity and soft bitterness. The dry impressions dominate, but there is also a pleasant touch of sweetness. The finish builds up; showing more and more. Overall a beautiful and well balanced wine.

Vermouth style. A modern recreation of a style introduced by John Cossart's father in 1938, and often used as the base for a Dry Martini. Not heated. ABV : 19%. Color : med straw yellow. Nose : moderately aromatic. Aromas of vanilla, coffee, cacao, caramel. Palate : off-dry, light body, fresh acidity, moderately low flavor intensity. Aromas of coffee, apricots and pears.

A bit neutral, dry but softer than a Sercial, has the weight and soft fruit of a white port and the almond nuttiness of a dry Sherry; only slightly maderised with a nice hint of sweetness. Neither here nor there really - I'm not a fan.
