  • Showed very poorly; not sure if it was an off bottle or simply fell apart with a few more years on it. Nose had a Sharpie scent. Palate started with big dark fruit, but only showed hints of the spices that made it so nice previously--and those were masked by alcohol on the backend. Flashes of vanilla came & went on occasion, but really just felt like a gloppy, dark mess. Strange & unpleasant.

  • 14.6% alcohol. Black cherry color. Pretty nose of blackberry and baking spice. In the mouth, nicely texture and quite rich, with ripe fruit and good spice. Smooth finish. A-

  • There seems to be some bottle variation with these. The last bottle I had was almost bordering on the fried side, bricking, near past it's prime. But this bottle was signing right out of the gate. Perfect balance of fruit, acidity, tannin, and oak. Seamless. It may have also been due to the fact that I poured the bottle through an aerator first and then let it open for another 30 min. I'll have to see what my third bottle does. But this bottle was excellent. Not your typical Michael Browne (Kosta Browne) fruit and alcohol bomb. Although slightly over 14% ABV (14.3), it was hardly noticable. Bravo!

  • Similar to, but more integrated and less fruit-forward than a prior bottle about a year ago. Did not take notes, but recall a mostly cherry cola nose with a rich, full body, good balance and a lush mouthfeel. Dark fruits, vanilla and spice on the palate. Overall a very nice wine.

  • The RRV appellation was immediately apparent from the nose on this wine. On the palate, a core of cherry, plum and some tart red fruits were matched with a touch of spice. The red fruit flavors of the wine were richer when paired with food. This wine seemed to be holding up pretty well, though it had lost much of the opulence - dark red fruit and the silky smooth body - that had been so appealing in its youth.
