Recognizable as a merlot, but much lighter than I would like. Up in WA state, better merlots can be had for 1/3 of the price. Vaguely Pomerolesque, but ultimately more just pretentious and mildly underwhelming.

Mineral-laden red and black fruit on the nose, with cedar in the background. The palate shows mostly red fruit - red plum, strawberry, cranberry - and a hint of green. Quite tart and tannic to start, it opens up with air. This is definitely on the lean side. If I had more of these I think I would wait a few more years and see if it shows interesting tertiary development.

Red and black fruit, some cedar. Tannins are softening but still benefited from a decant, and drank well on day two.
