Light ruby core. Typically brambly red fruit on the nose. Light weight, tart red berries and soil, a bit of anise, then an alkaline finish. Good and still admirably young.

Double decanted for about 3 hours. This is just starting to lose a little color around the rim and today the nose is abit reticent but pretty, with red fruit aromas, earth, greenish sous bois notes and floral undertones. On the palate, this is fairly masculine with deep and rich midweight flavors of red cherry, abundant earth, slightly greenish, brambly underbrush notes, floral undertones (violets or perhaps lavender) and firmish, chalky tannins on the mid-length finish. Quite nice tonight.

Very pretty nose of black cherry, violets, damp, green, brambly underbrush with some hints of pipe tobacco. On the palate there's rich dark fruit, sous bois and some floral notes. The tannins, on the fairly long finish, are quite firm and perhaps still have a green edge to them, but this wine has a lot of stuffing and is drinking fine today with abit of air. Tonight I didn't take the times to decant it, instead I poured it through a vinturi twice. Quite nice.

(Domaine Michel Gay et Fils Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru Les Serpentières) Roses, tart red fruit nose; tight, tart red fruit, brett palate; medium finish 90+ pts.
(Serpentieres MICHEL GAY) 2005 Red Burgundy Dear Friends, I just got back from tasting this set of wines and they have come around substantially since bottling (in a similar fashion to many of the tight 2005s). At their respective tariffs, they represent outstanding price/value at this point for 2005 red Burgundy and will pair with a number of dishes in a stellar fashion. Due to limited quantities, that's all I will say but I will include the original Burghound reviews and you can use your own imagination as to their positive evolution. The silly part is that the 88 and 89pt scores mean nothing when it comes to your dinner table - both will make for enticing drinking over the next 6-8 years (at a minimum) and they should continue to improve... 2005 Michel Gay et Fils Beaune-Coucherias 1er Vieilles Vignes (BH88) (This wine has become especially strong) 2005 Michel Gay et Fils Savigny-Les-Beaune "Serpentieres" 1er (BH89) (make sure any comparable listings you see are Michel Gay et Fils, not Francois Gay which is cheaper) A 20 year wine if stored properly? Thank you, Jon Rimmerman Garagiste Seattle, WA Burg7224 Burg7225
(Domaine Michel Gay et Fils Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru Les Serpentières) Bright red cherry color with pale meniscus; sappy tart cherry, roses and sous bois nose; tasty, deep tart cherry, berry and mineral palate with a touch of iodine; medium finish
