Fantastic. Decanted the sediment, let it sit for about 30 mins. Drank with med rare beef. Did not seem like it would last much longer but for the first 5 years of storage it was in a pretty warm cellar.

Drank this wine with a group of drinking enthusiasts at a wine mate's place. The theme of the evening: Aussie Shiraz from 2006.
Still tight and decanted for 30 mins for the wine to open up. Dark red fruits with chocolate, and a fine, silky texture. The structure is still holding up very nicely with dark spices, oak, and a long, satisfying finish.

Some bottle variation since there is very little, if any brown tinge on the rim.
Decanted two hours, served at 62-64F, sediment easily controlled after a couple of days upright
Blackcurrant and blueberry aromas, maybe wishful thinking about a hint of eucalyptus. Acidity holding, suggesting I can hold the last bottle a few years. Palate is beautifully balanced, long, with tannins tickling into the smooth finish

Honestly, mostly just another mature big Shiraz. Not particularly special that makes it stand out in the crowd, at least not any more. Perhaps a bit more acid than usual, and a kind of balsamic / caramel twist in the tail. Otherwise, heaps of blueberry fruit.
Very heavy deposit in bottle, both clumping and fine, needs care in decanting or the bottom few sips of every glass get a bit gritty.

(Exile) Exile Dear Friends, This is a wine we pioneered in the US 4-5 years ago and it has been curiously left in its own little world, without the major name recognition of something like Run Rig. While the vineyard source and result (especially with this 2006) rival anything being produced in South Australia, the Exile has to earn its reputation every year - it cannot rest on its laurels. This wine is back and it's back with a vengeance in 2006. It will help reaffirm Shiraz and its place among the world's vinous elite. The 2006 Exile is a very serious wine (I'm not saying that because I need to offer it - quite the opposite) - the more I think about it, the more I'm prone to say it borders on great. It is the most cerebral Exile yet made and it rewards the very patient (as noted below by Josh Raynolds) with a very deep experience that requires a long period of oxygen exposure to unravel. If you are willing to give this 24 hours in a decanter and consume it little by little over the next few days, you are in for a compelling and wild ride that leaves the simple behind in favor of nooks and crannies not often seen in this part of the world. Yes, this is Shiraz and I have to say, it's stunning: VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED 2006 Colonial Estate "Exile" (Please be patient with Niki here, we do not have a large amount at this price - we are trying to get a second shipment in the $125-135 range which is still a terrific price) It will ship during the spring shipping season.
