Gunpowder on the nose. Funky and dank. No Bueno. As others have recommended, the ship has sailed on this vintage. The wine looks crimson colored. The legs are medium. There is moderate sediment in the bottle. It smells like burnt match. It tastes like mushroom. The body is light/medium. The wine has narrow texture. The wine finishes short. The wine has low acidity.

Past it's prime. A bit thin. Dark fruit predominant with plum predominant. Somewhat figgy as well. Eucalyptus notes. Drank with beautiful roasted chicken legs, portobella mushrooms and grilled corn. Was a delightful pairing. Enjoyed with friend Michael N on his visit. Not much evolution over an hour of decant.

Cork in remarkably good shape, no significant ullage or signs of seep. Right out of the bottle, a shy nose of dusty leather and faint red fruits. In the glass, richly toned, with some bricking and amber edges, appropriate for age. A fascinating and enjoyable palate with leather, orange peel and mature fruits, fine tannins, and balanced acids. Only rarely do I have the opportunity to sample CdP from the 80s, and frequently there are unpalatable soy sauce edges and other disjointed elements - not the case for this nicely aged example. This bottle, obtained at auction, must have been impeccably stored. Right now at the final stage of its drinking window, riding fast into the sunset. Cool teardrop oblong bottle shape. A distinctive, mature wine, with plenty of intrigue.

Definitely past it's prime, but still delicious. Licorice, herbs, mushroom, hints of pepper. Last bottle and well timed.
