Christmas in July (Ben and Estella's place, Parramatta): From half bottle. A little funky with cream, mango, vanilla, toffee, a bit of an odd nose. Juicy acidity on the palate, sweet, mango fruit, slight cinnamon with a touch of citrus sharpness on the finish. Hmm.

Riesling Lunch (Frank's place in Matraville): Honey, cream, caramel, a little toffee apple on the nose. Juicy acid, caramel, toffee apple, a little cream, slight texture on the mid palate is a touch granular. Sweet. the acid keeps things fresh and this is rather nicely balanced, medium plus length. Not massively complex but this is good.

Good. 7.5% alc. Colour: pale straw Bouquet: cumquat and lime, sharp, clean and uplifted Palate: promise of bouquet not fulfilled. Light apricot, short palate and less sharp than bouquet. September2014.

Quite light nose with paraffin, leather and sweet yellow apples. On the mouth feel this Auslese is in an awkward place, burnt aromas, not in balance and very high on sulfites.

Visit to Schloss Vollrads (Rheingau): In the nose perfume, very ripe peach, some dried apricots (some botrytis?). Typical Auslese sweetness (or slightly above), palate with peach and some perfume, some acidity, very nice aromas. 90-91 p. For an Auslese from a producer who doesn't have a "gold cap" or similar in their range, this is a bit on the light side, although it is a very fine wine.
