Decanted 2 hours. Showing no undue age in either the color or the nose, this wine offers up subtle aromas of sweet and savory spices, tea leaf and tart cherries. In the mouth it comes across more as Eola Hills than Yamhill with savor cranberry and tart red berries with a lovely spice element. Some richness, very composed and quite long on the finish, this is certainly the equal of many more expensive single vineyard bottlings. Very satisfying. Drink now - 2010.

Have always loved the soft smooth taste of Elk Cove and this 2001 was both smooth and soft, plenty of fruit with a silky finish. Always one of my favorite Pinots

Dinner at home with crab cakes. I first notice a medium garnett wine in color. The nose opens with the traditional pinot 'earthy' smell which after about 30 minutes turned into a more floral smell. The body of the wine was very feminine with a nice 20 second ending of spice and berry. While not a crowd pleasing stand alone wine, this serves its purpose very well as a food wine (espicially at around $22/bottle).

On the second day, a nice soft pinot with hints of tobacco.
