I struggle stylistically with some of these big, ripe, bombastic, extracted “Syrah like” Pinot Noirs. I clearly understand the “bigness” of the Pisoni fruit, but I’ll point out again, the Patz & Hall offering comes across less extracted and better balanced. Clearly, I’m in the minority here, but it’s exactly why many have fled to Willamette Valley. Structure alone, will carry this for at least another five years.

This was a gift to my wife from her boss for Christmas in 2017 and stored in a wine fridge since. Tasted over 6 hours. I am a big fan of the fruit from the Pisoni Vineyard but sometimes it is dealt with a heavy hand and excessive ripeness. This wine is well balanced, kissed with a little new oak, bright enough with acidity to keep it fresh and lively, as well as nicely fruited with flavors and aromas of cherry, pomegranate, strawberry and finished with some chocolate, spice (including but not limited to black pepper) and a persistent stony minerality. Very Old World in style. Lovely with grilled spice rubbed Salmon. Delicious!

In a much better spot than 2yrs ago. Ripe fruit with softer tannins and a plush mouthfeel to round it out, delicious. This will progress more upon cellaring. Drink now thru 2024

Hard to give it a 94, but it just seemed better then it was a year ago when I gave it a 93. A spectacular Pinot.
