Thought I grabbed a pinot, but in many ways this wine was more like pinot than most CA syrahs. Quite elegant with full fruit and some classic syrah expression but not jammy or overly exuberant. Very pretty wine.

Pop and pour and served without food. This has a nose of wet wool. Quite funky but not flawed. In the mouth, much better things happen. Clay and earth along with some bacon and black fruit. Good rich structure and weight. There is a bit of lift to the wine that helps with the weight of the earthy elements. Just as the wine started opening up, it was gone. My guess is that this will be better with a few more years of bottle age.

Radio Coteau was my gateway drug into drinking wine; hence the preponderance of my tasting notes. This was very different than their other Syrahs -- lighter, more strawberry in taste than kirsch, but with an even longer more lingering minerality. Really well-structured and utterly fantastic with pancetta, fennel salami and Humbolt Fog.
