Beautiful deep garnet colour. Notes of dark cherry, French oak vanilla, and spice. There's a light floral note on the nose as well. A nice full mouthfeel with chalky tannins, and medium acidity. Very well made and delicious.

Well made Rioja, but nothing really distinctive from my point of view. So for the price given, I'd rather buy a good Reserva with more depth and smoothness.

A private dinner (Restaurant Sergi Arola **, Madrid, Spain): A blend of 91% Tempranillo and 9% Mazuelo, relatively cool fermentation at 18 - 25 Celsius, 14.6% ABV, 16 months on one year-old French barriques, 90.000 bottles produced. Bright cherry red, good saturation; expressive nose with black fruit, oak, spice and minerality; the palate strikes a nice balance between freshness and weight, while the soft tannins already allow drinking at this young age, juicy, lovely ripe fruit flavours; good to very good length. Attractive.

Decent nose, but flat with a vegetative finish. Disappointed.
