The taste profile was quite different than what I was expecting, but this is clearly a finely crafted, nicely balanced endeavor. It wasn't as powerful as I was anticipating, but it was elegant and distinctive.

Intensely dark with a little bricking at the edges. Muted nose that was mainly forest floor and tar. Dry, but with bracing acidity. Early on, the acidity and menthol were the main impressions, but over the next two hours, the dark fruits opened up and the wine came into a much better balance. Wonderfully complex with a very long finish. It was a more traditional style than I was expecting from a Super Tuscan, but once I got past that, it was an excellent wine.

Lunch at Wa-I. Drank in Sydonios Meridional. Appearance is clear, deep intensity, ruby colour with thin garnet rim. Long legs. Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of milk chooclate oak, grilled bell pepper herbs with hint of green, dark red cherries, blackcurrant, Amaretto liqueur, tobacco, pencil lead, dark earth. Developing. On the palate, dry, high acidity, high alcohol (15%), high tannins with good grip, full body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of blackcurrant, dark red cherries, black cherries, Amaretto liqueur, smoky tobacco, pencil lead, dark earth, smoky spicy toast oak. Very long finish. Very good quality. Bordering on blockbuster style. Big powerful wine. Complex. Still has more longevity. Remainder to be re-tasted again tonight: Bitter dark chocolate and coffeebeans. Fruit a little raisinated.

I started drinking this wine in 2014. It was terrific then. And subsequently it got better and better and today I think it is one of those wines that has achieved its own perfection. Deep and dark, with such soothing, smooth, flavors and mouth feel. Dark black and blue fruit, medium acidity, receding tannin but enough to pull along a 30-second finish. I described it, for what it is, as near perfection. This was my last one but it’s enough to make me search it out to buy again - obviously at WAY more than I paid for it originally in 2012.

Slow oxed for about 3.5 hours. This is a medium red wine, one with significant tongue-staining capacity. The bottle had some striking sediment cake, although there wasn’t much in the liquid (I stood this up for a few months before opening). The nose is somewhat odd at first, but it unfolds with plum, red cherries, herbs, and coffee. In the mouth, this is nicely balanced, with red fruit pushing against acidity and coupled with ash and an aspect I found hard to identify but reminded me of beet juice. The finish leaves some earthy and savory notes for roughly 35-40 seconds. Overall, this is a unique but quality wine. This was nothing like what I expected opening a 100-point Bordeaux blend wine with 15% alcohol, but it is very good and enjoyable (it did take a bit of time for me to acclimate to this). This wine oddly reminds me just a tad of the funky Oregon-Washington border Syrahs. It’s interesting and I wouldn’t mind having some more bottles (although not for much more than $100 per). 92 points.
