A bit Burgundian to me with nice structure and black tea notes on the finish. Dark with black cherry fruit and a long finish. A bit edgy (tart and tannic) right out of the bottle but moderates with air.

Medium plus nose shows classic RRV style, bing cherry, black cherry, raspberry, sweet spice, baking spice, blueberry. Palate has more umph to it than expected, fruit, body, hit up front, layers that match the nose, red berries, baking spice, candied or chocolate cherry, some heat in the finish gives it away as CA style (14.1%). Complexity and length are quality.

Winter in Wineland; 1/14/2017-1/20/2017 (Sonoma & Napa): A bit more nuanced and lighter bodied than the Russian River that we had right before it. Here the fruit was red raspberries and it was still a bit fruit dominated. Also more one dimensional of a wine.

Clear, pale garnet with significant rim browning. Slate, toasted oak, strawberry. Low acids, very low tannins. Black cherry. Long balanced finish.
