Drinking beautifully. My last bottle of the 2017 vintage. The aromas and flavours are muted but have gained in complexity and balance. No longer the “in-your-face” gooseberry and other typical NZ Sauvignon Blanc features, the wine after 6 years has delicacy and maturity. For my taste Dog Point benefits from a few years in bottle - but probably not too long!

The 2017 vintage was part of a vertical tasting alongside the 2020 and 2022 vintages. It was astonishing how the ‘17 had evolved over the 6 years, certainly in comparison with the ‘22: the extrovert gooseberry/grassiness aromas/flavours had smoothed out, producing a complex, elegant and so well-balanced wine. Not sure how much longer it will last, but this ‘17 is at its peak. Among the group doing the vertical tasting this wine was unanimously the favourite!

Delicious. For my palette the very best NZSB that exists.

Grapefruit, melon and green pepper with a hint of smoke and good acidity. It’s improved with a few years in bottle.

Grapefruit and smoky aroma on day 1, resolvong to something more herbal and reminiscent of shiso leaf on day 2. Very good
