A powerful and charismatic dark fruit bomb. Cherries, leather, spices, earth/minerals. Great acidity, long concentrated and juicy finish with a dry bite. Can be stored for a very long time. Great value!

Decanted 30 min. This is certainly a wine for specific tastes. Tasted blind knowing I was having grilled lamb rib chops, and I also tried a younger Bordeaux, Graves as I was at a loss for anything else.
This had some Loire Cab Franc notes, but more barnyard in the mid palate, then a medium finish that ended fruity. Hit the mark with the meal and opened up with more time. Better than the Graves.
Nice return on the price.

It takes 30+ minutes for the nose to open up. Some reductive notes. Minerally with some herbal notes verging on floral notes. Darker on the nose than on the palate which has a mix of dark and red berry fruit. Elegant and soft on the palate with some minerality and spice. There are Pinot qualities to this wine, but the color is much darker and the fruit is darker overall. Versatile and shines best with food. You’ll finish it quickly over the early course of the meal. In the past, I’ve never been a fan of Mencia because I found them too alcoholic and oaky, but this unoaked version shows what the grape is really like. 70,000 bottles made.
