Eric brought a very unique wine tonight! Served blind.
Dark gold in the glass. Early nose notes of Scotch 3M tape then golden apple then a hint of petrol.
Palate of more golden delicious apple with light caramel notes. This is very nice, but a tad old and tired, but not oxidized, with a hint of sweetness which made me think back to an aged Chenin....

A real stunner! Though it didn’t start out promising; an absolutely nasty moldy cork. Luckily, the mold was just on the surface and the rest of the cork was in very good shape. The wine inside was wonderfully preserved.
Medium gold appearance, clear and bright. The nose was a bit musty at first, but that diminished over an hour or so. Aromas are mostly very ripe tree fruits- kind of like a late summer orchard with peaches and pears lying on the ground, fermenting in the sun, with lots of bees buzzing around. Sweet citrus blossoms and Meyer lemon.
Very nice in the mouth, quite concentrated and honeyed. Medium plus acidity. Again, ripe apples and pears, honeysuckle nectar, a little Arnold Palmer vibe going on. There is a little residual sugar, but it’s an enjoyable amount and far from a dessert wine; like a seltzer with a squeeze of orange as opposed to a Coke. There is a little bit of a bitterness on the back end, not unpleasant, a touch medicinal- which is kind of an unusual flavor for me in this sort of wine. It is definitely showing some age, but for my palate, this wine is at its absolute peak. Wonderful.

Six years ago I said drink up. Turns out I still had one more bottle, and I opened it last night. Still very fine, with candied pear, spice and good freshness. No sense that the wine is tiring at all. 2000 has been a much maligned vintage, but Trimbach did very well.

Fully mature golden coloring, almost like a mature sauternes. Some initial funkiness that took about 30 minutes to clear, leaving behind some rose petal, petrol and stone fruit notes with a dash of honey on the finish. For a time it seemed more of a gewurtz style than a pinot gris. Drink up if you have any.

Drink up, as this is deliciously mature now. Still some pretty yellow/orange fruits, also some spice notes. It's fairly rich on the palate, but not heavy. Perhaps there's a trace of alcohol on the finish, but the wine is a bit warm. The persistence is lovely - carrying from one sip to another. It's long enough for me to write an entire tasting note. Really though - now is a very good time to drink this.
