California wines but not from Napa: Amazingly racy, this sparkler has a lot of energy and acid. The acidic finish persists for a long time. This is a different animal than methode champenoise, happy to try it at $73 but not sure I'd be a buyer at full price.

Daniel's White Truffle Birthday Lunch (Otto Y Mezzo, Alexander House, Landmark, Central, Hong Kong): Brief mousse. Very subdued bubbles even with swirling. Light gold colour. Nose is really gorgeous and inviting… immediately very elegant and understated lightly toasted wheat bread, nice salinity, whisps of ozone and oyster shell. Palate has a lovely immediate tension, a lovely single violin string high note, gorgeous chalkiness , dry, very refreshing and more-ish. Excellent tensioned structure. Nice long buzz on the finale and light- toned church bells ring inside the head. Thanks, Olivier! 93+

For 50 years these folks have been the benchmark for great sparkling wine in the New World. This bottle just solidified an already stellar (and well deserved) reputation. More brioche than citrus. The depth of flavors are well balanced and compelling. The finish is long and delicate. The “regular” Schramsberg Blanc de Blanc is a seriously good bottle of bubbles, but this Tête du Cuvée rises to a level with the great Champagnes. This was the last bottle in my cellar, and I am now quite sad.

Monthly Tasting Group: California: Anything but Napa (BLVD Kitchen & Bar, Wayzata, MN): Pale straw color. Small pour. Ripe red apple, lean and somewhat thin, a little oxidative. This just didn't do much for me. Was surprised by the full tag too.
