Classic Nebbiolo nose, tar, bright cherries, roses, and leather. Bright and vibrant on the palate with grippy tannins and some dark chocolate on the finish. Reasonable length too, especially for the price. I haven’t tried my 2019 PdB normales yet but this is a promising sign.

Really good for the level. Somewhat volatile, but quite pleasant, with cherry notes, tar and firm, coarse tannin with fresh acidity. Somewhat darkly pitched in terms of fruit profile - I’ll be excited to open a regular barbaresco next.

Popped and poured, VYCE stemless. Not ideal for the nose probably, because there seems to be a lot going on and I wonder how much I missed. Bright tart cherry but also some old leather and a tarry smokiness. Beguiling. The color, incidentally, is a little browned, but the palate doesn’t show any fatigue. Still tart cherry with nice weightless density. Clear and lifted in the palate, still with considerable but well integrated tannin structure, and all leading into a nice earthy, leathery, smoky finish that nevertheless ends on red fruit. Excellent and glad I have a couple more to keep me away from the normale from this year.

Fantastic QPR as always. First time I’ve had one that wasn’t current release, and the elegance really starting show through. Confirmed my belief that this is a good cheaper wine to buy a couple every year.
