  • Was super psyched to open this!

Unfortunately it was an absolute brick. Damn. 91 points in terms of drinking pleasure. Just too damn tight. But the aroma was an A and certainly you could tell there was something lovely hidden within.

Aired in the glass for an hour to see if it would let up. It did. Eezed up to a generous 93, could be 92, silky just not as complex. My guess, in 10 years this will start to be really good. I drank only a glass from the bottle, will see what its like over the course of several days. At this stage no way its worth the price of admission. Will get back to it in a few days.

2 hours in the glass, lost flavor! Back to 91 points. Yeesh

  • The Blind Side - no, not football! (Chateau Simms): This was opened for about an hour prior to tasting.

It was in a line up of Chardonnays served blind (including some Burgundies):

    1. 2013 Marcassin
    2. 2019 Henri Boillot Puligny-Montrachet Clos de la Mouchère
    3. 2018 Kongsgaard Chardonnay The Judge
    4. 2021 Faiveley Bâtard-Montrachet
    5. 2022 Walter Scott Chardonnay X-Novo Vineyard
    6. 2020 Henri Boillot Corton-Charlemagne

2020 Henri Boillot Corton-Charlemagne - My favorite Burgundy of the tasting! I identified correctly as Burgundy because of the rich minerality. This wine also had the high acidity, but still more rounded than the other Burgundies. Although citrus (mostly lemon zest) was the most prevalent, there was also plenty of poached pear, green and red apple and a touch of Meyers lemon and tropical fruit to go with the oyster, flint and limestone minerality. Remarkably balanced and will undoubtedly get better, but oh so good now! 96+ to 97 already.

  • Oh my…so good. Pineapples, lemon zest, a vein of minerality.

  • Eyes Wide Shut - Day 1 (A quiet place): Nose: Deep golden pineapple flesh with intense and fresh pear skins. Great aromas of wet minerals on the nose. Dried, clean oak adds a bit of prickliness to the aromas.

Palate: Beautiful earthiness with deep, fresh yellow fruits, and crisp, bright white fruits, spiced stones and nice tree bark for a bit more depth and complexity. The way this shows the contrast between the dark fruits and bright fruits, while being able to have them work so well with each other, is very impressive. Awesome display of balance here. Wine of the white blind for me, just by a hair.

  • PNP. Flinty nose, lemons and spice. Deep, lively palate, rich but laced with acidity and lemony fruit. Long, juicy finish.
