Fast forward four years from the last review and we have a very nice wine. The tannins are fully resolved, as they should be after 17 years. But a powerful amount of fruit remains. It's mostly cherry. But it's a huge, magnificent cherry bomb that mellows after an hour or so into a slightly subtler cherry bomb, with nuances of dark cherry. Great mouth feel. Long finish. This is what happens when you have a good year at a good winemaker and you age it long enough. Rare these days. A treat.

This contrasts with the Panther Creek's darker fruits - here you find tart red fruits and bit of a nutty caramel note that I often find in Oregon pinot. The tannins are decidedly less resolved than those in the Panther Creek, so it's hard to get behind them and get a true read on this wine. A few more years will probably clear this away. Nice but not in the pocket yet.

American Pinot - a much needed education: berryies, sour cherry nose. with time - more floral. less expressive on the nose than expected. BUT the mid is where this wine is showing up! cherry in every aspect from sour to black cherries to ripe red. good long finish with a hint of pepper. with time - tea and a bit more earthy.
Day 2 - still light on the nose. cherry mainly with some earth. mid is lovely - more lush and filled with ripe cherries. good acidity...reminds me a bit of rioja - while the PC was more barolo. nice spices on the finish and some pepper. damn good wine.

2002 Oregon Pinots - Tasted Blind (Tom's house in Palo Alto, California): Generous nose with a lot of brett/funk. Mushrooms, cherries. Tasted blind.

Blind Tasting 2002 Oregon Pinots (with pre's and Burg ringers) (Tom's House, Palo Alto, CA): Chemical, v.a. nose. Tart and shrill palate. Don't know what the flaw is but for me, this was undrinkable. Others disagreed. (my 6th, group's 4th - Flight 1)
