Wine Spectator Grand Tour (Las Vegas, NV): Chimney Rock's 2021 Stags Leap District Cab is a deep ruby blend of 91% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Cabernet Franc, 3% Merlot, 0.5% Petit Verdot and 0.5% Malbec. Deep ruby in color, it offers aromas and flavors of Bing cherries, crème de cassis, baking spices, tobacco, violets, dark chocolate and toasted oak. Full-bodied, fresh and with well-integrated alcohol (14.5%), it wraps its flavors with plush tannins. Dense in the middle and long on the back end, this is a well-crafted red that will have broad appeal. Drink now-2036.

Decanted for two hours. Aromas of blackberry, blueberry, black plum, boysenberry, shaved dark chocolate, and dried herbs. Almost full bodied with a very elegant structure of smooth, polished, and sturdy tannins wrapped in shiny, juicy acid. There's a seamlessness to it that really impresses. The flavor profile is quite earthy with licorice, violet, allspice, and cracked earth. The red and black fruit is secondary right now, but not without a presence. As it goes into its fourth hour, the fruit develops a bit of welcomed sweetness. The structure makes it quite enjoyable right now, though I’d recommend a 4+ hour decant. I see significant upside development by sitting on this for at least six or seven years.

My score is based on potential, so take it with a grain of salt. This needs air and/or more cellar time. It is very oak dominated at the moment, although the raw materials for a good Napa CS are there. Tasted this at Wine Spectator’s Grand Tour in New Orleans.

First time @ prime Diplomat Hollywood. Very balanced. Can be drank on its own or with red meat. A crowd pleaser. I suspect value around 70-90$ /bit
