Wine was acquired from very questionable storage in a passive basement cellar with unknown provenance. Cork was good and didn't expect much but it overdelivered as far as being drinkable with some nice dark fruit, smoke bit of cedar and good color. Obviously faded downhill but holding up enough for an enjoyable experiment that was provided to me at a cost that was right $0 :-)

The first bottle opened was flawed. The second and last was decanted 20 minutes before drinking. Aromas of dark fruit, earth, leather and spice. On the palate somewhat flat fruit and mature tannins. This bottle was over the top and on its way down the hill, however, still drinkable. Served with wild game.

Decanted for just under an hour before tasting. Medium garnet core, bricking rim. Nice nose with hints of strawberries, raspberries, lemon peal (?), leather, earth and oak spice. Light bodied with faded fruit and accentuated acidity. Decent length. I’m marginally more impressed with this wine than the 98 I had a couple of months ago, but it’s still past its due date and should be drunk sooner rather than later (85-86 points).

Strong aromas of dark fruits, spice, black pepper and earth. Well balanced tannins and nice acidity. Very open and nice finish. Served with lamb chops, redwine sauce, vegetables and fried potatoes. Surprisingly good pairing. Impressive wine.
