My last bottle and by far the best... Still so rich in color, with minimal to no bricking at the edges. Nose featured caramel, tobacco and earth. There was quite a bit of new oak on this -- which made it borderline undrinkable 10 years ago, but is well integrated now. Still, some of that wildflower note synonymous with Lagrein showed through on the palate. Good stuff all around. and I think it will continue to hold/improve for at least the next few years.

Monthly Tasting Group HWS #056; Special varietals. (By RvD): Garnet and opaque. Chocolate and dark fruits in the bouquet. On the palate also dark fruits like cassis, cherries and plums. Very intense. A lot of soft acidity in the long finish.

(Cantina Terlan Lagrein Porphyr Riserva, Alto Adige) Lagrein can be produced in many styles, but the Terlan Porphyr is one of the most powerful incarnations of the scuro (“dark”) variety. The 2006, displaying a distinctive herbaceous note on top of deeply rich black plums and berries, will age for many years. Hot Picks

Oak overdone. Not terrible, but moderninity reduces Lagrein typicity. Poor QPR.
