German Riesling Offline (Counts Manor): a totally different vintage - and the wine shows it. even though this is halbtrocken it tastes drier than the '05, more vicious and stronger on acidity, the minerality becomes the focus rather than the background... very precise wine...

In which we drink French, Italian & German with Dan Fredman. (Il Corso): Warning! Warning! A Lyle Fass selection! Nice guy, but we really have divergent tastes in wine. Doesn’t help that the label says halbtrocken, as I find them to be a waste of good Riesling. Stinky as hell as it’s sulfured up the wazoo. A powdered pez candy note does fight its way through, though. Taut and crisp with the usual stripped halbtrocken mouthfeel I don’t like. There’s some upfront sweetness and guava notes of no particular interest. A big hole in the middle followed by citrus pith and Bayer aspirin flavors on the finish. Not quite a winner. C.

(Emmrich-Schonleber Monzinger Halenberg Spatlese Halbtrocken) This was lovely and actually at maturity. It surprised me as I thought this wine had the legs to fo for a bit more. Guess I will be drinking my last bottle sooner rather than later. The nose had petrol, red fruits, ginger snaps and some slatiness. The palette had great fruit which was very focused and precise, along with razor-sharp wake you up acidity and decent length. It was nice and really opened up in the mid-palette as the night went on. One thing that kept nagging me at the back of my head was that I liked this better younger.
