Unmistakably Alsacian, with its pitched nose of flint and dried and honeyed fruits. The wine is admirably lifted but the flavors, which are clearly in the late-harvest spectrum, are agreeable and pleasing, but it all ends a bit short and end rather bitterly. The residual sugar contributes to the richness of the wine, but it has receded somewhat into the background. There's no future here so drink up pronto.

Domaine Weinbach - 1999 Riesling Cuvée Ste. Catherine Kientzheim in Alsace, France
13.5%. Mature gold color. Warm, rich dry apricots with some steely expressions. Full-bodied, very creamy texture, little depth and a short to medium finish. Simple, but not really so enjoyable.

Wine Education Service - Alsace - Domaine Weinbach: Golden, almost amber. A restrained nose, initially a little petrol, then ripe fruit and jelly babies. The taste is quite mature with a hint of oxidisation, well rounded, a sweet edge, complex and very long.

Crisp and acidic. Nice green apples with a bit of minerality.
