Pretty nose of floral lime with a touch pf petrol. Graceful and balanced on the palate with the sugar hitting that just integrated spot. Excellent wine.

As fresh as a one year old wine, not even a remote trace of oxidation nor fading on any level. Honey layered over a mineral spine, likely to improve for many years.

(BERT SIMON Riesling GKA Serriger Herrenberg) 1989 and 1990 Riesling Dear Friends, This is one of those offers where the wine speaks for itself. Both of these examples are sublime in their own way and at peak where they should hold for some time. Your wine dollar continues to buy more for it’s money with pristine German cellar stock than with any other noble aged wine. Enjoy: 1990 Karthauserhof Eitelsbacher Karthauserhofberg Riesling Auslese (750ml) EXTREMELY LIMITED The Karthauserhof is from one of the more famous vintages of the last twenty and it is from the original cellar stock (beware bottles of this floating around the East Coast that were subjected to extreme heat during their transport to the US a few years ago - I’ve tasted 2-3 different bottles from different cellars around New York and they are not even close to this). This wine is a classic and it deserves to be in every cellar. Masculine, bright and so full of life (even at this age) with sugar in mid-resolution, the finish lasts for a period of deep reflection. It is a reference wine that will educate and calibrate one’s palate to the esoteric and acid-laced qualities that the backwater Ruwer can force upon your unsuspecting palate - especially with age. This is not the dreamy Mosel, this is the Ruwer and they mean business. At this price, for a 1990 library release, it’s almost bizarre. I can barely buy a bottle of 2006 Donnhoff Spatlese for this price - enough said. 1989 Bert Simon Riesling GKA Serriger Herrenberg (750ml) EXTREMELY LIMITED If the Karthauserhof is bizarrely priced then what do you make of this? Our friend Bert Simon has released this, the last of his very rare 1989 Herrenberg GKA at basically cost This is his most difficult GKA to find from 1989 and the wine is pure magic - there’s not much to say. If you enjoy the soil-infected, aged quality of the Saar stuffed through a beehive of pure honey, for this price, I wish he made it in quantities where one could bathe in it. Truly an outstanding testament to this unheralded man of few words whose presence will be sorely missed at the sorting table. Both wines are from rare original cellar stock - never moved since release. If you see these listed anywhere for less, be sure you are buying a 750ml and not a split. Pinot Noir: Burgundy vs. New World (Our House (2033 Brandywine St., Philadelphia)): Concentrated. Lemon with good minerals and sweetness. Nice acidity keeps this humming. Really good. It's not too sweet and is really balanced and focused.
