  Day 1: Clear medium reddish purple color with a very delightful nose of fresh red and purple fruits with slight herbaceousness. The palate is medium-bodied, with firm structure, very dry, well-integrated tannins, fairly balanced considering the high alcohol content (14% ABV) and definitely well into its drinking widow now at 9 years of age. Dry, slightly savory red and purple fruits dominates the flavor profile with fairly precise varietal typicity supported by a nice herbaceous backbone, well-integrated oak, mild tobacco overtones and watery minerality follows through that the moderately long and intense finish. I love the vibrant bouquet of this South African red which is reminiscent of the Ballentine Cabernet Sauvignon Estate Grown 2019 I tasted last year at Napa Valley. Generally a lovely South African Cab from the Franschoek subregion except for the fading fruit couple with the dryish and somewhat bland profile in my opinion. Personally, I would much prefer a little more fruit structure and vibrancy in this. I'm looking forward to trying the other flagship Cabernet Sauvignon (from Stellenboch) from the same vintage and producer next year. Will see how this evolves. Day 2: Tasted much fuller and fatter while the alcoholic heat becomes more prominent.

  Enjoyed last night at the legendary Tampa steakhouse Bern's out of their cellar. In a mature drinking window with a good at least 5-7 additional years to go - drink or hold. May improve 1 more point with some additional aging and maturation. A highly rated experienced producer with wide land holdings on the western Cape wine region. Deep inky purple almost black, well balanced with oak and tannins softening, no peripheral bricking noted, medium - full bodied, good mouth feel and a pleasant medium long aftertaste. Nose bright and a bit more acidic then the flavor profile with dark fruit, smoke, mocha and a hint of eucalyptus present. Flavor profile darker and softer then nose would suggest - dark plum, oak, cassis with tar and cigar box developing and an underlying vegetal green pepper note present that is often present in S. African wines from that Stellenbosch / Franschhoek / Paarl area reflective of the terroir. Definitely recommend and a very reasonable QPR wine at the average CT price. 96% cabernet sauvignon with the rest CF, 24 months in new French oak.

  still quite young and takes time to open up. Well-structured wine after that.
  Will wait with my next bottle and perhaps add some more bottles.

  Last wine tasted at Boekenhoutskloof Winery and third from their flagship line. This vintage (first in 1996) is made up of 96% Cabernet Sauvignon and 4% Cabernet Franc. Aged for a total of 24 months in 100% new French oak barrels.
  
  Dark and opaque ruby red. A bit mute on the nose with just some purple flowers, chalkiness and spices coming through. Heavy tannins (7.5/10) with some high acid. Full body with some earthiness, dust, cherries and dark spices on the palate. Very dry and long finish. Needs a little bit of time to mellow out and develop. Drink till 2032. (92+)
