Monthly Tasting Group EEE #040; Châteauneuf-du-Pape (@ JD): Beautiful bouquet with still youthful fruits like cherries, red berries, minerals, pepper, some bell pepper, garrigue, smoke and a touch of barnyard which blows off. On the palate ripe red and dark berries and cherries, some flint stone minerals, firm acidity and slightly sticky tannin. The wine improved considerably with some more air time. Overall a beautiful, still fruity, harmonious wine which, although mature, is still quite youthful. Drink between 2016 and 2021 is probably a good guess.
This is drinking beautifully right now. We popped and poured. I wish I'd paid more attention to details, but we were busy hosting and socializing. The palate was smooth....great finish. Sadly, this is our last bottle. What a treat!
Drinking well right now. Nice and peppery CdP from the start. After an hour or so, it began developing some good secondary notes. The one negative comment I would make is that it occasionally showed some overripeness on the finish--an almost port-like note.
