Community Tasting Notes (13) Avg Score: 90.7 points

  • {screwcap, 14%} Sound, decent, if unexciting Hunter shiraz. Nicely ripe, with a savoury mien, medium dusty tannins, mild oak, medium acid. Blackberries, cranberries, cedar dust. Might be lovely with a lot more time. Medium weight.

  • Appears as medium ruby.
Layers of red fruit abound; cranberry and redcurrant along with light touches of vanilla from the oak. Freshly turned soil bringing a savoury aspect into the mix.
The medium bodied palate has sour edged red cherry and cranberry fruit, bright acidity and fine medium tannin.Leathery, meaty characters are beginning to emerge. Smoky wood notes come through on the finish.
This is textbook Hunter Valley Shiraz; a medium body, savoury, and earthy. It will continue to evolve, developing those meaty leathery apects with additional time in bottle. Everything is in place for this to happen. It just needs time.

  • {screwcap, 13.5%} Spice, white pepper, cranberry and cherry fruit. But dark chocolate-tinged fruit too. Palate is dusty, moderately acidic, with ripe but balanced fruit, with spicy richness but also a savoury, earthy aspect. Medium dusty tannins. Medium weight, medium length finish. This is ok, but I’d still agree with my note of two years ago; fair wine, decent, short of excellent, cellaring value a bit dubious.

  • {screwcap! 13.5%} Slightly spicy fruit, sandy-smelling, maybe some white pepper. But raspberry too. Palate is warm and quite dense, earthy. Red berries in soil, low/medium dust tannin, lowish acidity. Quite ripe; the bouquet has a bit more to it than the palate, which is a touch hollow and short-finishing. Crowd-pleasing style still, but I don’t think cellaring will add dimension to this, just mellowing age.

  • PnP this on a Wednesday night. Definitely better than previous. Still young but I’m sure it would go well with a decant. Upgrade score to 92-93+. Will try and hold on to my final bottle for a couple of years
