Ming's 30th - a night of 1981 wines and more (Asia Grand, Odeon Towers): For a wine with a pretty good reputation, this was slightly disappointing. Perhaps the least impressive wine on the night, it had a nice nose but a less than ideal palate. The bouquet was pure Italian - I thought it was a Brunello initially - with its funky, slightly animale notes, aromas of smoked honey-baked ham, blueberries, gravelly earth and a bit of Italianate spice and herbs. Nice stuff with lots of character to boot. Unfortunately, the palate was a bit weaker and less interesting than the nose. Quite thickly textured still, but with just a simple note of cassis and dark cherries sprinkled with a little spice. Okay, drinkable, but not great, and the acid stuck out a bit at the edges making it seem a little awkward. It may have been better a few years back. On the night, it was overall a decent wine perhaps, but very forgettable.

A bit sour cherries, with lots of chicken poop and like a zoo barnyard. A bit weak

Musky, barnyard, and woodspice. Leather, plums, earth, vegetal herb and stewed cherries.
