Community Tasting Notes (2)

  • Spice and articulate, dry. Luca Speri notes "our style wants to be a traditional, classic style, freshness, acidity, elegance.

"We don't buy any grapes, everything is what we grow. We don't have the winemaker that comes from tuscany or France, just Valpolicella.

"So no white wines, no IGT, nothing else, all indigenious grapes, nothing else. And from 2010 we will be DOCG only. And our choice is not to use international varieties, just varieties from our place, which is enough.

"La Roverina is an entry level, but not an entry level -- a classico and superiore and because of the screw cap we can't call it that. We have to call it the basic level.

"A wine good for everyday, for freshness and acidity, and good for pasta.

"Basica Val.pol. especially for the American market runs the risk of having too much acidity, so here we want a little more fruit, but still very fresh.

"The closure is too keep the freshness, and to keep the vitality of the wine."

  • pale pinky red; cranberry, vapours of fungal earth (like mushroom compost), and a woody violet-like floral waft - some vanilla and herby-soft aniseed with air; ulta smooth tannins that remain structural/supporting-only in their presence, nice/?crunchy acidity, some sweetness t the fruit, subtle vanilla finish with air. A good lightish red (12.5%) food wine that has interest (more than just fruit)
