I've never had a disappointing bottle of this stuff, from any vintage. The 2009 is a predictably excellent addition to the canon of fantastic and inexpensive Selbach-Oster Kabinett Halbtrockens. Electric acidity, tongue-coating power, good length, this is all lime and stones. Refreshing, food friendly, with just enough sweetness to drink on its own. It is not a complex drink (and mine never last long enough to find out what cellaring does to these), but an wonderfully satisfying one.

Firne. Petrol is "resin" and it happens in heat stressed Riesling when it is planted in the wrong place. This comes from the "sun protectant" in the skins of the Riesling grapes, it is a "carnot" or carrot chemical. Which gives you the smell of resin. I am being told from Johann Slebach. If it is in a wine that is 2 to 3 years old it is by heat stress. At 25 years... it should be more resin and mintiness.
And here fresh and vibrant and dry to me.
What many people confuse with petrol is slate... when the baby fat of the wine of its fruit has melted away that is the smell of slate, smells of earth.

(Selbach-Oster Zeltinger Himmelreich Riesling Kabinett Halbtrocken) ($22.00) This feels drier than usual because ’09 is so muscular and, in this case, fleshy and ample; a vivid spearminty fragrance leads to a much fluffier palate than you expect; the wine is lovely and flattering in its Chartreuse-y way, not as arch or penetrating as sometimes, but long and loaded with personality.

Aromas of green apple, lime and minerals. The palate matches stride for stride. Just a hint of rs, medium+ acidity.

a fresh and airy nose, carries through to the palate. Not the most complicated of wines, but god purity, very well balanced, and delicious.
