  • No formal notes but drinking beautifully

  • Initially, the flavor is rich plum, but that subsides as the wine takes on air. But, while the wine was enjoyable, it was far from spectacular or even very good. It continued as a one-dimensional, fruit bomb.
For all that PH was cracked up to be, this bottle wasn't in the same league as the previous night's main course wine - a stunningly spectacular 1996 Raphet Charmes-Chambertin.
I was hoping to enjoy it with a veal dish, but, alas, the restaurant was out of veal. Foiled again!

  • This records a March 20 tasting. Not scoring, as I was able to try only 1/3 of the bottle. But was great on day 1.

  • AMAZING Cabernet that was like drinking something with velvet in it. It was so smooth and balanced yet both BIG but soft. The flavors just kept growing and growing but gently, not in an assertive smack you across the tongue kind of way and the finish seemed to last forever. At thirteen years young this wine is just singing.

Worth whatever you have to pay to get a bottle if you weren't fortunate enough to purchase it from him back in 2006-7. Yes it was THAT good.

  • Absolutely outstanding wine. I really have preferred Dr. Crane fruit to To Kalon fruit so far.More wines yet to try. Decanted at the restaurant for about an hour as we ordered some appetizers and enjoyed a glass of sparkling wine. One characteristic of Dr. Crane fruit is the fantastic nose and this wine was no exception. Beautiful cassis, floral notes and some spices sends shivers up your spine as you first sniff. I usually spend an inordinate amount of time with my nose in the glass with wines of this caliber. The palate starts with the same flavors as the nose then black currants, blackberry and some earth notes kick in toward the mid-palate. Next up, some excellent acidity ensures you are going to enjoy the Chateaubriand or New York Steak you ordered while the smooth tannins and long finish seal the deal for a wine experience that is truly memorable. The overall balance in this wine is remarkable. I am so sad that this was the last bottle I had of this wine but hope that some of the succeeding years will continue the tradition of excellence.
